How To Choose The Best White Paint Color For Kitchen Cabinets

So, you’d like to have a timeless white kitchen, eh? Which white paint color will you choose for the cabinets? Soooo many choices!!

It’s been said that the color white is responsible for over 70% of all paint sales.

Wowza!

Homeowners commonly look for a “go-to white,” and I often hear people claim that either Sherwin-Williams Alabaster or Pure White is the true default white.

But don’t drink the Kool-Aid!!

For starters, the white you choose for your walls, trim, cabinets, and ceilings largely depends on your home’s existing fixed elements.

The majority of time, people are wondering which white paint colors will help transition them out of the warm earthy Tuscan trends of yesteryear or bring them into the fresh grey/ “griege” trends of today.

The quick answer is, warm Tuscan or earthy colors work best with warm off-whites and cream. Conversely, blue whites, pure whites, and off-whites look best with a fresh trend of grays and blacks.

These by no means are hard and fast rules. Just like everything in the decorating world, there are always exceptions. Consider them simple guidelines.

Now back to those cabs.

Once you’ve determined what white is in your hard finishes, (meaning cream or white), grab a few white paint color samples and test them on posterboard.

Place or tape sample(s) on cabinets near floor and upper cabinets.

If the sample(s) appear too stark or too clean next to your hard finishes, then you must choose a softer off-white or cream. Conversely, if the sample(s) appear dirty, then you need to choose a blue white or pure white.

So how does it look? Right or wrong? For the untrained eye, it can be hard to tell, but don’t be discouraged! If it’s too overwhelming or if you’re unsure, I can help you choose the correct white paint color for your cabinets. I’m just a click or call away!
