What You Need To Know About Choosing A White Trim Color

What happens when you want to update your wall and trim/baseboard color, but you don’t like your flooring and yet budgetary constraints keep you handcuffed from ripping it out?

(How was that for a big ol’ run-on sentence?)

Unfortunately you just can’t ignore it when choosing color. I feel your pain. But wait before you jump from your second story bedroom window! There is a solution!!

Pictured above is SW6092 Lightweight Beige/walls and SW7008 Alabaster/baseboard.

During the Tuscan trend (early 2000s), the majority of homes had pinky, beige, blotchy tile installed- which looked great back in the day!

But notice what the baseboard color does to the floor. Doesn’t it make you want to break out your bucket of Clorox and scrub it ?? Phooey on that! But we do need to tone down that white.

Even though Alabaster has a soft creamy undertone it’s still too bright next to the flooring. It makes the tile look dirty and no amount of bleach will rescue it!!

In this example, either SW9180, Aged White or SW7012 Creamy would be better options. Even SW7570 Egret White (not pictured) would work.

Why?

Creamy and Aged White are a little creamier and muted which would make the floor less dirty. It may be hard to see, but there are flecks of cream in the tile. Egret White has taupe greige undertones which is a fresher look. See the dark blotches on the tile? Those are taupe undertones.

So there you have it!

Sherwin-Williams carries approximately 100 different whites- if that makes your head spin, (which it often does), and trying to choose the correct white is wearing you out, I’m here to help!
